April 1 Bulletin

MS4 Town Hall Follow-up

Over 90 participants attended tonight's town hall that was largely dedicated to the early graduation option announced yesterday. Sixty participants submitted a total of 133 questions and 599 "likes" were cast during the hour conversation. We appreciated the level of engagement and attempts to keep the conversation constructive when asking for further clarification on difficult decisions.

Unfortunately, due to a technical errors, a recording is not available (wish it was an April Fool's Joke). However, we were able to capture all questions and will spend the next day crafting responses for all to review.

USMLE Step Exams

We are closing monitoring the impact of any future Step exam because of the April 30 social distance extension ordered by the White House and the requirements that those traveling from New York (and CT, NJ and LA) self-quarantine for 14-days upon arrival to other states.

We encourage you to remain steadfast to your study plan and stay the course for the date already scheduled. If you test date is impacted by future closures, Student Affairs will reach out and we'll cross that bridge together.

National Involvement

The senior administrative staff (dean-level) within the Department of Medical Education are actively involved in the national conversations that provide influence, guidance and feedback to the professional associations that provide oversight, governance and strategic planning to many of the services you experience, (i.e. ERAS, NBME, VSLO, etc). Several hold leadership positions and are engaged in conference calls with the AAMC to provide the context for the NYC situation and challenges that are echoed across the country. At all times, we advocate for you and do our best to promote a fair and equitable experience for all ISMMS students.
