Thank you to our Student WorkForce

In the month since the first COVID-19 case in NYC, we have watched our student body transform from a visibly vibrant community of basic science and clinical learners ready to embrace the spring celebrations to a stealthy and mighty force of interdisciplinary providers that demonstrate selflessness, ingenuity, and collaboration throughout our health system and community. Peer-led, the Student WorkForce has mobilized the collective efforts of 164 active volunteers to provide nearly 3,000 hours of service in week 2, an increase from 700 hours in week 1. While we look forward to recognizing the hard work of many and all achievements in a formal setting, we want to take this opportunity to say - thank you, we appreciate you, and you make us proud – and as you endeavor in these tasks, no matter the size, may you keep the patients in your heart and mind at all times. They are your motivation and you remain ours.

From those with whom you have worked:

“I am blessed to have these amazing Medical Students, I cannot thank you enough! They have become an integral part of our team and complete every assignment with passion, pursue and professionalism. We would not have made it through the past 2 weeks without them.”

“The hospital staff is also very happy for these students to continue in their roles as they showed great initiative and actually taught the staff many things while they were here.”

MS3 Resume Away Rotation Processing

The Office of Enrollment Services will resume processing away rotation requests this week. It is important to understand that our student health and registrar teams remain very limited while working remotely, therefore your assistance in completing self-service tasks is required when possible. Be on the lookout for a message from Student Health with information soon with more information.

MS3 InFocus 7 Reminders

We wanted to remind you of the important compliance requirements that need to be completed as part of your homework assignments. Please make sure to follow all your IF7 course announcements for instructions on how to complete these requirements. The requirements include:

MS1 and 2 Need VPN Access

All Year 1 & Year 2 students are now members of the VPNOSH group for VPN.

If you need to access any hospital-based program, like Epic, while not connected to the ISMMS network, will need to go to msvpn.mountsinai.org and log in using your EPIC user ID and password. If you do not remember your password or your password has expired, you should contact the MSH Help Desk at 212-241-4357 for assistance with password reset for Epic.

Please try to access VPN at some point so we know if they can view both Epic and EpicSIM icons. Also, you will need to register a two factor VIP access tokens on your mobile devices if it is your first time accessing VPN or you have changed/upgraded your mobile devices: Access Instructions on Two-Factor Authentication HERE

New Psychotherapy Support Groups

Student and Trainee Mental Health (STMH) is starting two psychotherapy groups that will provide support and tools for coping with the stresses created by the COVID-19 pandemic. These groups will offer a space: - to share and process feelings and experiences related to this crisis, and, - to learn practical tools for coping effectively.

Each of the therapy groups will run for 10 weeks and each week’s group will center on a different skill/strategy. Participants do not have to commit to attending all sessions but are encouraged to do so, to obtain the most benefit from participating. One group will be on Mondays at 6PM and the other on Thursdays at 12PM. Groups will take place via telehealth. Please contact STMH@mssm.edu for more information.
