Mandatory Symptom Tracker App – All Students

As we move forward in the recovery phase of the pandemic, and look forward to reintegrating you into the clinical environment, we want to reiterate the critical importance of keeping you safe, and allowing you to keep your patients and colleagues safe. We have been working closely with our Infection Prevention Team, and will continue to do so, in order to align our educational plans with infection prevention precautions. One of the important steps we are taking for the entire student body is a daily tracking mechanism for symptoms that may be early indicators of infection with COVID-19. Below is a description of the ISMMS Student Health Check, a web app that has been developed for this purpose. This web app will allow you to self-screen and direct you to refrain from educational and/or clinical activities when appropriate. It will also allow Student Health to track trends of anonymized and aggregate data in order to identify patterns of infection and guide policy changes.

ISMMS Student Health Check is designed to daily screen for COVID-19 symptoms. It can be accessed from any computer or mobile device. No login is necessary, and you only need to register your device once. No identifying information is required, and one can choose to keep responses to the symptom check anonymous as well. Each day that you complete screening for symptoms, a unique code will be generated which will provide guidance on whether to attend class/work or to stay home.

This daily self-screening is mandatory for all students. Complying with the screening and the resulting guidance is critical to potentially identifying early COVID-19 symptoms and minimizing the exposure to others with whom you will interact; patients, peers, staff, and faculty. It is part of our professional expectation of all students, in the same way that we expect students to behave in an unbiased fashion towards others, or comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Non-compliance with our Infection Prevention precautions—including the app-based daily symptom screening, face coverings, and social distancing,—will be considered a major breach of the school’s professionalism standards.

As physicians we are expected to monitor our behaviors and the behaviors of members of our profession. We need to serve as role models for each other and as a community reinforce the importance of our contributions to infection prevention.

Transportation

Our goal is to ensure that you are safe and aware of the options available to you in order to be successful in your training here. In the setting of COVID-19, we want to provide you comprehensive information related to all risk factors as we try to navigate this new environment before there is a vaccine available. We know that every form of transportation carries some risk. Our goal is to mitigate that risk by adhering to face coverings, social distancing, and proper hand hygiene, regardless of how we travel from place to place. Based on all available evidence, there is no data on the relative risk of public transportation vs. shuttles vs. shared ride programs. We are offering you several options for travel to your clinical training sites.

While public transportation is currently considered a safe option per statewide Phase 1 guidelines, our plan for the coming months will include the following.

Continued use of a shared ride program is available:

Utilize your UBER for Business profile under the ISMMS UME account:

Enhanced scheduling of existing health system shuttle buses for students, trainees and employees:

Students may also opt to use the subway, walk, ride bikes or scooters with appropriate safety measures taken.

We will continue to keep you updated as the city and state move through the various phases of reopening; and as the environment changes. If you have questions or experience any difficulty with your travel, please contact clerkships@mssm.edu.

Step 2CK Study Resource Needs

Use this form to tell MedEd the resources you need for your USMLE timeline. This is critical and time sensitive. We need responses by June 22, 2020 in order to update our subscription order.

If you opt out of UWorld renewal, you will be expected to pay for your chosen question bank out of pocket, and submit receipts for reimbursement. You may not request both UWorld extension and an alternate question bank.
