March 17 Bulletin

Mandatory Response to Aron Hall Census Registry

All Aron Hall Residents must complete this form as soon as possible to get an accurate census count. This list will allow our Housing and Real Estate staff to follow-up with anyone planning to vacate. We know your plans may change and it is important to know how we can best support students who remain in Aron Hall.

Aggressive Social Distancing

It’s hard to imagine how our nation’s cities are increasingly slowing the pace of everyday life: restaurants, bars, gyms, places of worship and others are closing doors. Beyond your role as a medical student, this plea is your role as a citizen of New York City.

Aggressive social distancing must be a shared responsibility of our community. This means you curtail all non-essential activities.

All students have access to Zoom and we encourage you to use this platform to connect with your friends and family as you adjust to the aggressive social distancing needs.

Follow these directions to establish a Zoom interaction.

Town Hall Details

Please join the Department of Medical Education for the virtual Town Hall tomorrow, Wednesday, March 18th at 4:00pm. We encourage you to participate with video connection so that we can “see” as many of you as possible.

Compliance

MS3: As you already know, all third year clerkship and clinical elective activities have been cancelled through the remainder of the academic year. Therefore, you are no longer responsible to complete any clerkship site specific compliance requirements for this academic year (i.e. fingerprinting at the BronxVA, Elmhurst trainings). Further details will be sent out about timelines for completing compliance requirements deadlines for the next academic year and the start of Module 1.

MS4: As you already know, all fourth year clinical clerkship and clinical elective activities have been cancelled through the remainder of the academic year. Therefore, you are no longer responsible to complete any required clerkship site specific compliance requirements for this academic year (i.e. Elmhurst trainings).

What is the protocol for COVID-19+ students and what do I do if I, or my roommate, develops symptoms?

IF SOMEONE TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19: Individuals who have been tested for COVID-19 are awaiting test results are required to self-isolate pending those results. If positive, they cannot work for at least 7 days from the onset of symptoms. A person is able to resume normal activities after 7 days of symptom onset, regardless of date of testing, if they have been consistently afebrile (temperature < 100 degrees Fahrenheit) for at least 72 hours without taking fever reducing medications (e.g. aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen), along with resolving other respiratory symptoms. No repeat testing is required to return to work per NYC DOHMH.

IF I FEEL SICK: Individuals with mild illness who can safely be managed at home, do not require testing, and should self-isolate. Healthcare Workers and other employees are able to return to work after 7 days of symptom onset and being consistently afebrile (temperature < 100 degrees Fahrenheit) for at least 72 hours without taking fever reducing medications (e.g. aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen), along with resolving other respiratory symptoms.

What do I do?

STRICTLY follow these guidelines for hand washing and germ management:

  1. Clean your hands often.
  2. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol, covering all surfaces of your hands and rubbing them together until they feel dry. Soap and water should be used preferentially if hands are visibly dirty.
  3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  4. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw used tissues into a lined trash can. Immediately wash your hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer
