Town Hall Recording and Future Scheduled

Over 200 students participated in the inaugural virtual Town Hall on Wednesday, March 18 at 4p and this word cloud represents the emotions felt in the moment. Click here for the recording. We appreciated your engagement and questions, and know we have many more to answer and more to ask. This all-student Town Hall was important to us so that everyone felt they had the opportunity to share what is most on your mind, yet we know each student population has been affected uniquely. You can watch the recording of the Town Hall

Eighty-six percent of you requested a weekly Town Hall, so mark your calendars for Wednesday, March 25 at 4:30pm and the format will provide each class will have a dedicated segment wherein questions posted and voted by your peers will be responded to by the Department of Medical Education.

A special thank you to the Student Council, class representatives and students who are dedicated to our nation’s health and recovery as shown through the countless requests for involvement.

Mandatory Response to Aron Hall Census Registry

We understand that our recommendations around Aron housing have been evolving as the public health crisis has progressed. We are working to make our recommendations proactive, intentional and evidence-based. At this juncture we need to know who continues to live in Aron Hall.

This data is imperative for us to have as we make informed decisions:

  1. Medical advice from the Student Health Office regarding self-isolation and quarantining;

  2. General recommendations about aggressive social distancing: number of people in common areas, small group rooms, the student lounge and if we can re-open the gym with strict guidelines.

  3. Wellness initiatives: delivery of once weekly boxed meals and snack bags, health kits.

Take one minute to complete the survey here.

We understand that some apartments have been sublet-ted and you may not think this pertains to you; however, we are the Sinai family and in order for us to support each other, we need an accurate count of who is currently residing in Aron Hall, who has fully vacated and who has vacated but is still continuing to rent as they plan to be in that exact room next year. This information does not put you at risk for losing housing for next year.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to support each other in this difficult time.

NBME Update on Shelf Exams

This afternoon, the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) announced revisions to the assessments they deliver, including the most prominent for MS3 students: clerkship Shelf Exams (known as Subject Exams). While we continue the work of adjusting to our internal plans and timelines, we wanted to ensure you have the same information today that we received. This development is encouraging to medical educators and students, alike. We anticipate having more information to share at our upcoming Town Hall meetings.

“NBME is working to enable medical schools to deliver Subject Exams to students in dispersed remote locations, including the students' residences. The target date for schools to begin implementation is April 7, 2020. NBME will provide ongoing updates about progress toward this date, as well as more details about support and processes schools can use to facilitate exam delivery, in subsequent updates.”

This will be via the free VSee Messenger platform, which is HIPAA compliant and user-friendly. Please know that this effort is to maintain our ability to provide the best clinical care for you, while also protecting your overall health and safety along with that of the general public.
