Student Labor Force

Want to help out in the fight against COVID-19? Volunteer as part of the Student WorkForce!

Here is a link to our sign-up sheet to help the health system respond to COVID-19. It will be continuously updated as positions and opportunities become available. Participation can be used for elective credit for medical students. Keep track of your own hours for all of these experiences. Please know that this effort has come together in the past few days and will likely be changing rapidly to meet the needs of the crisis. For more information please read the first page of the sign-up sheet! Reach out to rohini.bahethi@icahn.mssm.edu or benjamin.asriel@icahn.mssm.edu with questions or concerns.

Weekend Access to Telehealth

For after hours and weekend coverage, you may access the Mount Sinai Telehealth options as follows. Use PROMO code COVID19 to have fees waived.

Step Preparation Board Courses

Student Affairs is working with our Step 1 and 2CK board preparation partners, Elite Medical Prep, to create remote learning options and hope to have the plan finalized next week to share. Elective credit will be given for the Step 2CK course.

Interrupted Clerkships and NBME Shelf Exams

Medical Education is aware of the notification from the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) regarding remote implementation of Shelf Examinations with virtual proctoring. The Curricular Affairs Team is working in conjunction with the Clerkship Directors of Inpatient Medicine, Surgery-Anesthesiology, ACG, Neurology and Psychiatry on an approach and plan as soon as we possibly can. We are also awaiting additional implementation guidelines from the NBME regarding this bulletin. As always, we will keep you posted.

Away Electives/VSLO

For students waiting to hear about VSLO and away electives: Our school and many others have made a decision not to process applications for away electives at this time. This decision is based on a number of factors:

Please be patient with us while we continue to participate in the national dialogue on VSLO and away electives. We want to do what is best for all medical students, recognizing that, while we in New York are being impacted first, in the coming weeks the pandemic will spread across the country and force us all to rethink how the coming academic year will be structured.
