March 6 Bulletin

Edit

The Department of Medical Education remains committed to a safe learning environment while managing the on-going COVID-19 developments that are impacting our collective community. Our team assembles twice daily to review the current CDC and DOH guidelines and with this information, we weigh the potential risks of continuing medical school as-usual and develop modified plans where needed. We are writing today as a reminder that not all situations can be predicted and, as a result, some decisions may feel sudden, although never the intention and quite the opposite; a tremendous amount of thought and concern goes into every decision we are making.

Personal Protection

Beyond the recommended precautions on the CDC website, also be mindful of the social pleasantries/physical embraces (i.e. handshakes, hugs, high 5s) that may cause others to feel uncomfortable during this uncertain time.

Learning activities and special events

We are keeping a very close watch on mandatory class activities and special events that gather large audiences and are considering alternative solutions should we need to adjust. At this time, we are not canceling class and/or student activities.

Remaining 2019-2020 rotations

You must complete the registration process for any elective for which you are planning to complete for the remainder of the academic year that is planned at another institution. If you are uncertain about the process, contact the Registrar's Office for guidance.

2020-2021 rotations

We cannot estimate the duration or addition of travel restrictions that may require changes to confirmed rotations or the planning for future rotations. If you have been accepted to an away rotation, internship, research conference or anything that you are receiving credit for and is conducted away from NYC, please contact your Faculty Advisor and share what you have planned thus far. It’ll be helpful information should we need it at a later time.

Announcements

We are constructing a web-based solution to serve as a centralized mechanism to keep students updated. We will ensure all students can access this information and will keep you posted.
