Advice from Specialty Advisors

What should students be doing in year 1 and 2?
First and second year students interested in the field of otolaryngology should reach out to Dr. Londino regarding possible shadowing opportunities or clinical research projects.

What should students be doing in year 3 and 4?
Students should pursue a 2 week ENT selective (during your Surgery rotation) or an elective in year 3 and a full month rotation (sub-I) in year 4. Anticipate a possible elective rotation away, engage in ENT-related clinical research, and consider a possible gap year.

Is an away elective recommended?
Away rotations can provide a broader exposure to the field and an opportunity to demonstrate your interest and strengths in a program of your choice. The decision to do an away rotation and the timing of that rotation should be based on the strength of one's application and their interest in a particular program.

LoRs

Departmental letter necessary?
Yes

Any specific writers needed?
Combined chair/program director letter

All from the specific specialty or from other specialties as well? Letters from other specialties okay, but letters from ENT faculty preferred. It is a small field and letter writers are often known within the field.
