BASIC LIFE SUPPORT TRAINING
Session Description: Basic Life Support (BLS) is a level of first-aid resuscitation that can be used in emergency situations until victims are placed into the care of medical professionals. Knowing the proper steps for providing Basic Life Support could mean the difference between life and death. BLS includes psychomotor skills for performing high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using an automated external defibrillator (AED) and relieving an obstructed airway for patients of all ages. BLS also focuses on the integration of the following key skills to help rescuers achieve optimal patient outcomes: Critical thinking, Problem solving, Communication and Team dynamics.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, the student learners will:
- Recognize and prevent cardiac arrest.
- Discuss the concept of cardiac arrest and the importance of the time component.
- Recognize early the need for emergency activation of the emergency medical services (EMS)
- Perform basic life support in adults with CPR (ventilation and chest compressions).
- Use an automated external defibrillator.
