HAZARDS OF HOSPITALIZATION: FOLEY CATHETERIZATION SKILLS AND CARE
Session Description: This session is designed to teach students specific sets skills that are commonly asked of third year students: caring for patients with urinary catheters. Throughout the session there is an emphasis on patient safety. While students are not responsible for ordering placement of urethral catheters, students do play an important role in identifying patients who may no longer need them, or who may be at high risk for complications from a urinary catheter.

- List indications and best practices for Indwelling Urethral Catheter Use
- Describe the technique for insertion and removal of urethral catheters in both men and women
- Discuss the role the third year medical student in reducing complications from urinary catheters
